My blogging experience

 Hello everyone;

I have written many blogs during the time I’ve been working at the U and I  thought that writing a blog was going to be a lot of work and was going to be kind of boring. But it wasn’t!

I really enjoyed doing this blog since the very beginning. From the very first moment that I created the name I knew that my blog was going a challenge. Writing every week about different topics (some of them not so entertaining) was a real challenge.

When you write a blog, you have to be creative and you have to invite some other people to feel like reading your posts. Some days my creativity was not so bright, so the posts were kind of not so cool. All the posts have a particular feeling and each one is special in some way. :)

It also helped me to know you all a little bit better and know more about your lives and interests.

So, as this is the last post, I’d like to say thank you to all of you who took the time to attend the classes, take part in them and write your blogs.  For me, it was very interesting to meet all of you and have the chance to help you to improve your English a little bit and encourage you to get involved in the wonderful world of learning a new language.

A big hug for all of you!Cheers!

A subject I love

Hello everyone;
As we have to write about a subject we enjoyed this semester, I have to say that my favorite one this term was International Politics, a full English speaking class. This is a subject that I don’t teach at University of Chile but I used to teach this at Inacap for the students of translation. I really like this topic because it makes me study a lot so I learn about new issues that I’m not that familiar with. It’s always good to learn new stuff and it’s even better when you have to make others to learn about it. Not everyone likes this, but it’s a very interesting subject related to the policies and politics that rule the world today and the topics that this involves. I’ve learnt quite a lot about countries, bordering conflicts, political and social issues and the many problems facing the world nowadays. I really enjoy teaching this to my students. I hope to teach this subject someday here at the U.
Cheers

A career-related website/ An expert on your field

Hello everyone!

As this is going to be a post about one website that we relate to our careers and this one, it's the one that I use the most and it's one of my favorite webpages. This is National Geographic. I really love this site because it has a lot of  stories, documentaries and pictures of almost everything you can imagine. Nature, animals, people, science, education and even games.  It is a very interesting page that everyone, regardless their interests, can enjoy a lot and can also get a lot of outstanding information. National geographic magazine has a very user-friendly layout and it is not difficult to browse around.
I visit this page almost every week to get stories and readings for my students.  The register of the language is easy to understand even for someone that is just starting to learn English. Food lover? Yes, I am

Hello everyone;
Diet guidelines for meat and full-fat dairy have changed. What and ...

Actually, I don’t have a favorite dish or meal. I really love eating a lot and hopefully I don’t have to worry about getting fat. I love eating sweet things like cakes or desserts. I love Peruvian food, so some time ago I found a “picada” where I can rejoice myself eating home-made Peruvian food.. It is great especially the ceviches and parihuelas, a kind of soup with meat and vegetables.. I like sushi too, especially the hot ones covered with chicken or roasted salmon. There are many flavors and mixes, besides it is pretty healthy and delicious! Mexican food is very tasty and hot, but it is always great to go to a restaurant and eat some enchiladas or fajitas… If we think on typical Chilean food and I love stew, a kind of meal with meat, vegetables and corn flour that we called “ chuchoca” have you tried it? I’m not a person difficult to please, so any food you offer me will be welcomed! Just go outside and EAT whatever you like!

Cheers

My favorite picture

Hey there!
As we have to talk about our favorite picture, I'm going to tell why I want to share with you this pic and why this one is one of my favorites:
I went on holidays with my family to Pucon and there were best hols ever! We had a great time because it was the first time we went on holidays all together. There you can see me and my little niece Antonia, who, at that time, was about to be 7, doing kayaking. It was the first time for her to do this so she was pretty excited and happy. You can notice that just by looking at her face.
At the very beginning she was a little scared because the kayak was moving a lot when we got into, but later she got relaxed and started enjoying the sailing along the lake. I took her deep into the lake and she helped me with the paddles.
This picture was taken in February 2011 at the Caburga Lake in the south of Chile by my sister who was pretty nervous because we were so deep in the lake but we were happy and we were wearing life-jackets.
They were the perfect vacations for everyone and it was a perfect summer day for all of us!
Hope you like it.
Cheers!

Say: Who took it , What it shows, When it was taken , Why you like it, Upload it too. Write at least 150 words. Make a comment  in the teacher's post and 3 comments on your classmates' posts

Movies, one is not enough! :)

encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR...
When dealing about movies, it is not always easy to say which one is our favorite. There are movies for everyone, so everybody can get what she/he wants. I love going to the cinema but it is hard to say which my fave movie is. I love action and horror films but also like sci-fi films. I really enjoyed watching The Lord of the Rings saga and the Marvel saga of superheroes, such as X-men, Iron man or The avengers. I loved The Ring and I could watch it one time after the other. The last movies I watched were The Conjuring and Gravity. I also like those movies based on great best sellers such as Gone with the wind or  others. One of my favorite movies is Sarah's key based on the book of the same name. It tells the story of an American journalist's present-day investigation into the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup of Jews in German-occupied Paris in 1942. It tells the story of young girl Sarah's experiences during and after these events, illustrating the participation of the French bureaucracy while also showing how other French citizens hid and protected Sarah from Vichy France authorities. The film alternates between Sarah's life in 1942 and the journalist researching the story in 2009. It is a great movie, but as in many cases the book is always better. So, I highly reccomend everyone to watch it... Give it a try.

Cheers

My favorite technological device

Dear all,

For this week's post, you will have to write about your favorite piece of technology... Everyone gets one, right? If I think what i like the most is my Iphone.. There are so many things I can do with it apart from talking to my family and friends. I can surf the net, download applications and the best thing of all is the iTunes where I can manage and buy music and applications. I got it more than a year ago and I can't live without it now..  Another device that I like is my Ipad. I love the touchscreen resolution and how I can manage the applications just by moving my finger on the screen.. I have become a sort of Apple-device guy...
I'm pretty sure you all like technology and you have a favorite device, so tell me about that.. what it is, when you got it, how often and why you use it for, etc..

I hope to hear from you soon..

Cheers

T&T teacher and translator

Hello everyone!
I’m not going to talk about my dream job because I already have it. If I had to choose again what to do in life, I’d choose exactly the same. I live being a translator and a teacher of English. It is always fun to learn new things and teach them to the students. When I decided to become a translator and interpreter I was not so aware that this would take me so far away…I’ve learnt so many things in this journey and I'm pretty happy to work in this. Becoming a teacher came by accident and I learnt to love what I do. Life gives you surprises sometimes and I really feel that being a teacher, it is one of them. I really love teaching and sharing with students.  And as the old saying goes “choose a job you like and you will never have to work a day in your life”… And this is true! And you, whay did you choose this career?.

First post, first words! :D

Hey there!

I am Rodrigo and I'm your teacher of English for this semester. I was born a long time ago in Los Vilos, a small town in the north of Chile. My nuclear family is not so big but I have a lot of relatives. I live in Santiago but my family lives in the north, so I try visit them as often as I can.  I have a lot of things to do, so do not have enough time to do the things I really like doing. I love painting and drawing. I really like traveling and visiting new places and I also like teaching English.

I really hope we enjoy this time together and have fun while learning the fascinating world of English language.

Cheers.
